Assessing What Truly Matters.

Unit 9 · TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation

The EduPro Validation Panel

You have been rostered to participate in EduPro’s validation cycle. Everything the panel works from is on this page.

You are a participant in the validation process. You are not the lead validator. That distinction is assessed — this unit is about contributing as a panel member, not running the session. Your evidence has to show what you contributed, not what the panel concluded.

1

What EduPro is providing you

You are validating assessment tools in this unit, not writing them. EduPro’s Quality and Compliance Manager has issued the panel the pack below. Download all of it before the first session, and check you have every item — Task 1 asks you to confirm receipt.

Everything in the pack is deliberately imperfect. Finding the issues is the exercise.

Validate the three tools as though they are new. Task 2 is pre-assessment validation — you are checking the tools before they go out. The completed candidate work further down shows what happened when they were then used, and that is Task 3’s material, not Task 2’s.

The three assessment tools

One per unit. Validated in Task 2, then validated again in Task 3.
Tool 1 — BSBWHS211 Contribute to the health and safety of self and others

Complete assessment tool as issued for use: knowledge assessment with benchmarks, workplace observation checklist, outcome record and mapping documentation. Validated before first use in Task 2 and again after use in Task 3. This is also the tool behind all three judgement records.

Tool 2 — BSBSUS211 Participate in sustainable work practices

Complete assessment tool as issued for use: written quiz, resource usage report task, outcome record and mapping documentation.

Tool 3 — BSBCMM211 Apply communication skills

Complete assessment tool as issued for use: knowledge questions, observed workplace conversation with third-party report, outcome record and mapping documentation.

The same three tools after candidates sat them

All three units in the one document. This is what Task 3 works from.
Learner work samples and results

Five completed assessments, as held on the candidate files — filled-in copies of the three tools above, with the candidate’s answers, the assessor’s marks and observation notes, the reasons for the judgement and the signed assessment record. Covers all three units. BSBWHS211 was assessed three times by three different assessors: those three are the judgements Task 4 compares.

BSBWHS211 in depth

The full evidence behind one of those judgements. Tasks 4 and 5.
Evidence portfolio — BSBWHS211

This is not the same thing as the work samples. The work samples are what the tool produced. The portfolio is everything held on file against the whole unit for one candidate — the hazard report he lodged, the toolbox minutes naming him, his supervisor’s signed report and his induction certificate, each reproduced in full, with an index and a coverage summary across every element. Work samples tell you how the tool behaved. The portfolio tells you whether there was enough evidence to make the call. It sits behind Judgement record 1.

Built your own tools in Unit 6, or made judgements in Units 7 and 8? Those can be substituted where they suit the panel. This is optional.

How the panel runs

Who is there, how often you meet, and how each session is evidenced.

Who is at the tableThe Lead Validator — a real, experienced VET trainer and assessor, AITT staff in character — plus at least one other participating assessor. Fellow TAE participants and AITT staff both count.
The sessionsTwo to three scheduled meetings across the cycle, facilitated by the Lead Validator. Your trainer publishes the dates.
How each one is evidencedWhere an AITT staff member leads the panel, the session is minuted and signed off by the Lead Validator, who also completes an Observation Record for you. A session with no AITT staff member present is video-recorded instead.
Time and attemptsAllow 8 to 10 hours across the cycle, including the sessions. Two attempts; further attempts must be requested in writing.

The two session forms

Bring both to every session.
Meeting Minutes TemplateFor a session an AITT staff member leads. Signed off by the Lead Validator. One set of minutes per session, so you submit at least two. The minutes must name who raised what. A minute reading “the panel agreed” evidences nothing about you.
Download
Lead Validator Observation RecordThe Lead Validator fills this one in, not you. One per session, so again at least two. With the signed minutes it is the evidence of what you contributed. Bring a copy to every session so it can be completed on the spot.

What you do, in order

Seven tasks across the cycle. Every template is built into your Summative 2 workbook on Canvas.

Task 1PrepareConfirm you have received every item in the pack, confirm the scope of the validation and your own role, review EduPro’s policies, and read the three units on training.gov.au before the first session.
Task 2Pre-assessment validationCheck the three tools against the unit requirements, the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, before any candidate sits them.
Task 3Post-assessment validationValidate the same three tools again, this time using the completed learner work and the results they produced.
Task 4Validate the judgementsThree assessors, three judgements, one tool. Check whether they reached the same place, and whether the evidence supported what they decided.
Task 5Review the practicesLook at the assessment practices those judgements came from, and agree at least two recommendations. Each one needs an owner and a date.
Task 6Report the outcomesWrite up the cycle using the EduPro Validation Reporting Tool, built into your workbook.
Task 7Seek feedback and reflectAsk the Lead Validator and one other panellist how you went as a panel member, then write an honest reflection on what they told you.

The policies you work inside

Task 1 asks you to access and review these. Read them before the first session.

What you hand in

All of this goes to your assessor on Canvas. Tick it off here as you go.

Your ticks are saved in this browser only, so you can come back to them. Canvas is the submission, not this list.
