Where Skill Meets Standard.
Assessing What Truly Matters.
BSBTWK401 — Build and maintain business relationships
The skills and knowledge required to establish, develop and maintain effective work relationships and networks, through the relationship building and negotiation that the work itself demands.
Everything EduPro issues you for this unit is below, in task order. Real industry contacts are strongly preferred and make much better evidence. If you cannot get them — you are not yet working in your industry, or nothing is running in your window — the role play briefs below let you run the tasks with briefed people instead. Tell your assessor which you are doing before you start.
Industry Engagement Brief
Assessment 2 · Task 1
EduPro’s engagement objectives and how your role serves them, your two target relationships and what each offers EduPro, the openings you will use, and the communication channel you have chosen for each contact and why it suits them.
Contact Register
Assessment 2 · Tasks 1, 2 and 4
Your contacts, every interaction, and anything you had to refer up. The engagement plan gives you five working days to record a contact.
Barrier and Negotiation Record
Assessment 2 · Task 3
The barrier that got in the way, the problem-solving technique you used on it, the options you weighed, the negotiation itself and where each side moved. Part D is the specialist advice you sought — or a reasoned note saying why none was needed. Leaving it blank is not an answer.
Promotion Strategy
Assessment 2 · Task 4
Your key messages about EduPro, what you can and cannot commit to on its behalf, and what happens after the conversation. Half a page, written before the networking activities — your two activity records should show you applying it.
Networking Activity Record
Assessment 2 · Task 4
One per activity — you need one formal and one informal. What it was, who you met, what you promoted, and the follow-ups you captured.
Relationship Status Report
Assessment 2 · Task 5
The written half of your report to the Industry Engagement Coordinator, both relationships, including anything that has stalled. The Coordinator’s feedback and your response go on the same form.
Relationship Improvement Log
Assessment 2 · Task 5
At least two improvement methods per relationship, and at least one of them actually actioned or scheduled with a date.
Supporting documents
Industry Engagement Plan — extract
Reference · used in Tasks 1 and 4
EduPro’s engagement objectives, what you may and may not commit to on the institute’s behalf, the communication standards, and the email signature block. You do not fill this in — it is what you work from.
Role Play Brief — Placement Host
Assessment 2 · Tasks 2 and 3
For a role-played workplace contact. Carries a staffing barrier for Task 3, so the negotiation has something real to work on.
Role Play Brief — Client Employer
Assessment 2 · Tasks 2 and 3
For a role-played employer who buys training. Already has a provider, and a cost and release-time barrier.
Role Play Brief — Networking Function
Assessment 2 · Task 4
Only where attending a real industry event is not reasonably possible. A group brief for the organiser and for each guest.
EduPro business documents
Formative assessment and Assessment 2
The EduPro documents your formative asks you to read: the Customer Relationship Management policy, the Document Handling policy, the Customer Relations Operational Plan and the Knowledge Management Business Plan.
· Customer Relationship Management Policy and Procedures
· Document Handling Policy and Procedures
· Customer Relations Operational Plan
· Knowledge Management Business Plan
Meeting Minutes Template
Assessment 2 · Tasks 2, 3 and 5
Where a conversation is minuted rather than recorded, and the contact confirms the account.
Recording Consent Form and Participant Declaration
Assessment 2 · all recordings
A signed consent form for everyone recorded, and a declaration naming every contact or role player and their participation tier.
