Where Skill Meets Standard.

Assessing What Truly Matters.

Assessing competence

You have been rostered onto live assessment work. You must assess three candidates against two units (six assessments). One of them is conducted by recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Everything you administer is on this page: the validated tool for each unit, the RPL kit you use for the recognition assessment, the assessment policies you work under, and the two forms you need before you record anyone.

Your assessment tools

You assess every candidate against both units. The Assessment Workbook goes to your candidate. The Assessor Guide is yours — it holds the benchmark answers and the observation checklists, and it is never given to a candidate.

Both workbooks carry the Assessor’s judgement record and the Learner Feedback Form at the back. You do not need to download those separately.

Use the Assessment Workbook for a candidate you are assessing by gathering evidence. For the candidate you are assessing by recognition of prior learning, use the RPL Kit below instead — not the workbook.
Recognition of prior learning — BSBTEC201

BSBTEC201 is the unit you assess by recognition of prior learning. EduPro supplies the validated RPL kit for it — you do not build one. Download it, issue it, and conduct the assessment in it.

The kit has seven sections and it is the record of the assessment. Your candidate completes Sections 1 and 2; you complete Sections 3 to 7; Section 5 goes to their supervisor.

  1. Candidate self-assessment against the performance criteria
  2. Evidence register and candidate declaration
  3. Assessor evidence review
  4. Competency conversation — ten questions, recorded
  5. Third-party report
  6. Gap task, if the evidence does not cover everything
  7. Assessor’s RPL decision record
RPL is an assessment, not a shortcut. The candidate is assessed against the same unit and to the same standard as anybody else — what changes is where the evidence comes from and how hard it is to authenticate. If the evidence does not cover a requirement, the requirement is not met and a gap task is set.
Assessment policies and procedures

Read these before you plan your round. Your first task is to work out what each one requires you to actually do — not what it is about.

Moderation: EduPro’s Assessment Policy requires you to take a decision to the Lead Assessor before you finalise it in six situations. The full list is printed in the Assessor’s judgement record at the back of each Assessment Workbook, and in Table 7.3 of the RPL Kit. Your first decision on each unit is always moderated.
Forms you need before assessing

Signed before you record, not afterwards. Everyone who appears in a recording signs a consent form, and every person who takes part is named in your participant declaration.

Recording Consent Form → Participant Declaration →

These apply to the RPL assessment too. The competency conversation in Section 4 of the RPL Kit is recorded, so your candidate signs a Recording Consent Form before it happens.
The Learner Feedback Form is not here. It sits at the back of each Assessment Workbook so you can hand it to your candidate the moment their assessment finishes.
A reminder about your candidates

Your candidates are real people being genuinely assessed. They are not enrolled in a qualification and they do not receive a statement of attainment from this.
